Lavender, Cont'd

There was a bowl of liquid on the table and he plunged his hand into it. The bowl contained lavender oil, and to his amazement the pain quickly went away. Even more unbelievable to him was that the burn healed quickly without scarring.

My personal experiences with the healing properties of lavender oil include its use on burns, insect bites and a wound embedded with miniscule asphalt “gravel”. With repeated applications of lavender oil over a period of three or four weeks, that gravel gradually worked its way out of the wound, and the wound healed with no scar.

Lavender essential oil soothes the sting of burns and lessens the chance of blistering better than any ointment I have ever tried. Of course, lavender is never a replacement for prompt medical attention for second and third degree burns. You should always see a doctor when a serious burn is sustained. But a drop of lavender on the burn before you leave for the doctor’s office will start drawing the heat from the area and limit the damage to some extent. When thinking burn, remember that minor sunburn falls in the same category as touching a hot pan. And lavender is wonderful in that case as well.

Insect bites lose most, or all of their itch if lavender is applied whenever the bite starts to itch. In just a day those pesky mosquito bites that used to itch for days are healing and practically unnoticeable. The pain of wasp and bee stings is eliminated in a short while with the application of a couple drops of lavender. And of course, the sooner the essential oil is applied, the sooner the relief.

Used on minor wounds, lavender’s antiseptic properties cleanse and protect from infection. And the oil soothes pain associated with the wound without resorting to chemical pain relievers.

If you could only have one essential oil on hand, the oil I would recommend would be pure lavender essential oil. A small bottle in your medicine cabinet and in a first aid kit in your car is an excellent preparation for emergency situations.
