Wishing You And Yours A Peaceful, Healing Christmas
And A Joyous New Year!
|
Many
of us find the holiday season to be more stressful than any other time of
year. There's the job, the expectations about what family and friends will
or should do in this season, the frenzy of gift shopping along with
thousands of other people, the irresistible extra food adding unwanted
extra pounds. And this year especially is a time of sorrow and pain for
thousands of families who lost loved ones in the past months.
This year, plan to be extra kind to yourself. I'm not saying forget about
your family and friends and their plans and expectations. But you can
certainly find ways to simplify things for yourself.
Get together with family members and suggest that instead of everyone
showing up at your house for a meal that you slaved over for a week, that
everyone bring a favorite dish and you will provide the main dish. This
way you only have to worry about preparing one item and can still have
time to enjoy the day. Maybe you don't need as elaborate a meal as you've
prepared in the past. Plan something simpler, and with less choices.
You'll spend less time in preparation and maybe everyone won't stuff
themselves to agony trying out all the dishes.
Do you use this season to reciprocate for all the party invitations you
have received all year? Maybe this year you could invite only family and
close friends to a small gathering. Invite all the "have-to" people to a
small gathering at another time of the year. You and your family will
enjoy the closer time spent together.
Instead of hundreds of handmade hors d'oeuvres, plan something easy to
serve and easy to clean up. There's nothing wrong with simple cookies,
coffee and tea to celebrate your gathering as people who care for each
other.
What does all this have to do with aromatherapy, you ask? This month you
can make your aromatherapy part of your refreshments. Here's an idea for a
simple family party. Find as many things already prepared as you can at
your favorite grocer or baker. Use your favorite, most simple recipes for
the rest. Serve buffet-style using high-quality holiday-theme disposable
plates and napkins. Use real cutlery because the plastic stuff is so hard
to use.
Menu
Tender ham sliced thin by the butcher
Roast chicken sliced thin
Pumpernickel bread
Rye bread
Whole wheat bread
Olives, pickles, baby carrots, celery sticks, radishes
Dill dip, used as dip and as mayo substitute on sandwiches
Lemon Bars
Pumpkin Bars
Hot spiced punch
Hot coffee and tea
Here's what you have set up with your menu: The meats and breads,
especially if fresh and warm, stimulate the appetite, yet are lighter in
calories and volume than other choices. The vegetables are good fiber for
your digestive system as well as providing color and texture. |

The aromas in the rest of the foods encourage a
convivial atmosphere.
Dill Dip: Encourages tenderness and harmony.
Lemon Bars: Uplifting, encourages liveliness.
Pumpkin Bars: The spices in this food create a specific environment.
Cinnamon promotes generosity. It is also a comforting aroma. Cloves
are for
trust and inner warmth. Nutmeg is for unity and peace.
Spiced Punch: Cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg again. Cardamom
is for enthusiasm and confidence. Add
lemon and orange because they are uplifting and create joy.
Now add some precious fragrance to other areas of your home and you are
all set for a loving, peaceful holiday season. In each bath burn a vanilla
or cinnamon candle. Both of these fragrances evoke memories of childhood
Christmases to most of us. Add a delicate hint of pine to the room in
which you have your tree to increase the feeling of trust and love within
the group of your family and closest friends. Simplify and enjoy this more
than usually stressful holiday season. And to all of you I wish Peace,
Love, Health and Happiness.
