A Real July Surprise
Last month I promised a surprise topic for the month of July. Well, as it turns out, the surprise was on me. On the 28th of June I lost the hard drive on my computer. Seems that it just quit spinning. Finding a really good, reliable computer repairman was a little hard, but having the drive replaced was easy. The really hard part was recovering all the data from my old drive. Thanks to my miracle-performing computer repairman, Mike Hays, after a downtime of only two and a half weeks, he was able to recover every bit of my data! I would have lost two and a half months of irreplaceable work had he not worked so hard to come up with a solution.

And I hereby promise to do *very* frequent backups now that Mike has installed a CDRW device to make it much easier. Yes, I did backups, but not very consistently. My old tape backup system took more than eight straight hours and at least eight tapes. Now it's down to about two hours, and I've sorted my data onto four CDs.

So, because it's already the middle of July and because I'm still catching up on the backlog of mail, and so on, I beg your indulgence for this month.

COMING NEXT MONTH

August can be as hot and humid as late July .... so I promise I'll talk about something cool and comfortable next month.

My webmaster, George, is busily putting together the page(s) for some exciting new related products. And now that the Word files for the hard copy catalog have been recovered we hope to publish a new one within a month or so.

And hopefully, any new surprises will be welcome ones, for you and for me.
